-

Horizon Campus, the only fully privately owned degree awarding institution, approved by the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Higher Education, has commenced delivery of viable and affordable US higher education opportunities for our students. In keeping with its mission of offering affordable and high quality education opportunities, Horizon has partnered with Arkansas State University (AState), USA, to offer 3 degree programmes, for students who wish to qualify with a prestigious American degree, to their name.

Arkansas State University is one of the government funded Universities in the United States, which has a rich history of over 100 years of existence. The A-State University currently boasts over 13000 students enrolled in Campus and over 150 undergraduate and post graduate degree programs offered on campus. It has a strong alumni of over 75,000 students worldwide, with International students representing over 20% of its current student population, where South and East Asian students being the majority of the same. All degree programs offered are fully accredited by the respective governing bodies, which would represent the quality guarantees necessary for any prospective student. It is one of the top ranked State Universities in the South of the US and Horizon Campus is extremely proud to have the opportunity of partnering with an institution with such credentials, particularly as this keeps with its mission of “…. educating lead- ers, enhancing intellectual growth, and enriching lives…”

The degree programs currently offered by Horizon Campus in collaboration with A State are threefold. These are namely BSc Biotechnology BSc Computing & BSc Strategic Communication Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering The unique feature of this partnership is the fact that this will be the only US StateUniversity degree program, with the opportunity of being fully completed within our shores. While this 4 year degree programcould be completed in full, in Sri Lanka, the students would also have the luxury of transferring to the US.

Horizon Campus is extremely proud to note that it has successfully negotiated with the Arkansas State University, to offer the 3 degree programmes at the lowest possible cost for an equivalent degree available within the Sri Lanka education market. The significance of the cost factor is emphasized by the fact that the tuition fees offered through Horizon Campus corresponds to 20% of the cost that would be incurred, if one was to study for a similar degree in the United States (The approximate saving for the parents/ students would be approximately US$ 45000+). This we believe emphasizes the vision and mission of both Arkansas State University and Horizon Campus, in offering affordable opportunities for students who wish to study for the degree of their choice.

The benefits of reading for a AState degree programme through Horizon Campus, also has the added advantage of prospective students having the opportunity of completing their degree in the United States with the option of obtaining the work permit to work for up to 2 years under the Optional Practical Training (OPT) & Curricular Practical Training (CPT) programmes available for US undergraduates. Invariably, depending how well the undergraduate has performed in their respective work placement, this could also lead to the possibility of permanent employment in the US. Furthermore, students who join Horizon will also be considered as “INSTATE” with regards to their tuition fees to be paid to the University, if and when they transfer to the US.
