Annual Prize Giving 2016 of Royal Institute International School
The annual prize distribution of Royal Institute International School was held on Monday the 18th of July at the BMICH, with Hon. Justice P.A. Ratnayake as the chief Guest. Awards were given to the students who achieved in academic and other activities during the years 2014/2015.
The ceremony was conducted in two sessions with Mr. G.T. Bandara, Chairman and Managing Director of Royal Institute as the Chief Guest for the first session, and Justice Ratnayake as the Chief Guest for the second session. Prof. SarathAmunugama, President of RIC, the degree awarding sector of Royal Institute, was also present as a guest of honour.
Mrs. I. Gunawardena, the Coordinating Principal, read the annual report and highlighted the achievements by the students. She also thanked the Management and the parents for giving all the encouragement to the students. She also elaborated on the efforts taken by Mr. G.T. Bandara the Chairman to improve the standards of the Institute and the dedication and the sacrifices he had made during the last 4 decades.
While outstanding students selected from all five branches were awarded, teachers with a long service record were also given recognition. The best all round students from each branch were as follows: ShaznaNaleem (Nugegoda), Shameem Ismail (Havelock Town), PiumiKulasekera (Maya Avenue), DilushaVithanage (Maharagama) and DinithiJayasekera (Gampaha). The Sportsman of the year was ChirathMatharage who represented Sri Lanka in the South Asian Schools Basketball Tournament in Dhaka, Bangladesh 2016 and the best Sportswoman was Liza Harridge.
World and Sri Lankan Prize winners in the Cambridge O/L, A/S and A/L examinations were also felicitated and given rewards. There were many World and Sri Lankan Prize winners. Even the stu- dents who achieved high marks at the check point examinations were called on stage and awarded with certificates and medals.
