Third Red Bull Ride ‘My Wave’ at Ahangama

- By M. Shamil Amit

The Red Bull Ride ‘My Wave’ after its successful completion of the second edition which was held at the Eastern coast in Arugam Bay is gearing up to hold the third edition scheduled to be conducted on December 10 and 11 at the Southern coast Kabalana Beach in Ahangama.

The event which began two years ago (2014) with the participation of the best surfers from the East and South coast saw the organisers inviting international surfers last year which turned out to be successful with one of Sri Lanka’s top surfer Asanga Waduge emerging champion.

The event will be judged by three fully accredited ISA judges with two having worked and judged in WSL events around the world and Kai Linder the Surf Director who was part of the 2015 event will also join the trio.

Kai mentioned that this event is going to be somewhat different as the southern waves are completely different to the northern and we are looking forward to experiencing another tense battle due to that and in addition he stated that hopefully Sri Lanka surfers by gaining the much needed experience through these events would join the global contest in the future.

Last year winner Asanga Waduge was of the view that the event is not going to be easy as the sea waves in the two areas is completely different where we will have to master their nature and then use it to our advantage. But I assure and you can be sure that I’ll give everything I’ve got and will seeking to defend my title.

The winner will carry away a cash prize of US$1500 the second placed will receive US$1000 and the third US$500.
