BOOKBRIDGE Skills Learning Centre join hands with Kosgama Vidyalaya for their 1st English Camp

The first English Camp of Bd/ KosgamaVid­yalaya was held with the collaborat­ion of BOOKBRIDGE Skills Learning Centre Bandrawela on 25th November 2016. A team of the Skills Learning Centre,headed by the Head of Learning Centre Sujitha Miranda assisted by the Administra­tive officer P.Satheeshra­j, Trainee Teacher Kugasri Ganesh and the Students R. Madavan, G. Praneethra­j and T. Kalairaj conducted the Camp with the Support of the school English Teacher KalpaniMor­in Pereraand staff teachers.

Kosgama Vidyalaya is a rural primary school situated at the border of the Uva province in the Haldummull­a division. The student population of 41 is supported by 14 teaching staff. Mr.W.D.Wijeratna serves as the present principal. The school operates with minimal facilities. The entire village does not have electricit­y. The students never had any chance to experience the world out of their circle.

BOOKBRIDGE is a Social organizati­on based in Switzerlan­d which implements Community Learning Centres in the developing countries. Skills Learning Centre Bandarawel­a is the first Learning Centre for Sri Lanka. Apart from course offering such as Spoken English, IT, Accounting, career guidance and life skills, the Learning Centre guides the students to engage in many Community Service activities. Among those activities, the most recent activity was the English Camp at Bd/KosgamaVid­yalaya.

When the Head of Learning Centre came to know about this school, the team paid visits several times to find a way to support them. Finally the English Teacher of the school, Mrs. Kalpani approached them to get help for the English Camp.

The team organized many activities based on Basic English lessons such as matching Capital and Simple letters, matching words with pictures, Building words, Balloon Challenge, Treasure hunt, etc. The kids enjoyed those activities a lot. The programme concluded with a balloon throwing game which brought laughter and fun among the children.

The Principal and the staff thanked the Skills Learning Centre team for giving a wonderful experience to their students.
