Delayed A Level results...

-

The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) said that the ED last week said that the results of Advanced Level exam held in August 2016 will be released only on 12 January 2016 and this will incapacitate many students who want to apply for various scholarships made available to them. General Secretary, Joseph Stalin said the students have already missed out on the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Scholarship which closed on 28 December 2016.

“Also they will be late applying for other scholarships and to universities without the results,” he said.

The Examinations Department has cited the delay, to the introduction of a new module – technology - in the Advanced Level subject stream. It is learnt that around 30,000 students sat for the technology paper and the subject included a practical paper, there has been a delay in assessing the results.

Stalin argues that the applications for the Advanced Level exam were made six months early and the ED had ample time to organize and streamline the correction and release the results on time.

He said that the ED has got into the habit of releasing results late. The 2015 results were released on the 3rd of January 2016, and now the 2016 results will be released on the 12th of January 2017.

“The results should be released in early December or ideally in November each year to give ample time for students to plan their future with regard to their education,” he said.

Stalin said that he has written letters to the President, the Prime Minister and the education Ministry regarding the lapse, and inquired into the delay in releasing the results.
