Aravinth Pushparaj, an undergraduate engineering student who transferred to the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook under the ANC US University Transfer Program has yet again made ANC proud by making great achievements at his new university, displaying immense personal and academic strength.

Within just two semesters, Aravinth has been selected for the Dean’s List of the SUNY at Stony Brook for his high academic achievements and has been appointed to the Judiciary Branch of the Undergraduate Student Government as an Associate Judge. In addition to that, he acts as a Green Dot Ambassador, seeking to empower students in their efforts to recognize and respond to power-based violence by promoting awareness of the impact of various forms of violence. Apart from that, he works as an Operations Monitor at the Campus Recreation Center as well as a member of the University Red Watch Band, an organization which promotes safer environment through reduction of alcohol consumption by educating the campus community. He is also an inaugural member of the Sri Lankan Student Association, founded to create a platform for Sri Lankan student community in the campus to communicate and support each other.

“My extracurricular activities involve working with a large population of students and faculty members in the university on a regular basis – which has allowed me to build a good network of peers and professional from around the globe. It has also given me the opportunity to serve the campus community which gives me a sense of great satisfaction,” Aravinth added with excitement.

Aravinth completed his Edexcel London A/Levels at Belvoir College International in 2013 with a combination of biology and mathematics, keeping an open option. Later under the guidance of ANC expert student counsellors, he opted to enroll in the engineering degree program offered at ANC which was a perfect match for his future aspirations. During his first three semesters at ANC, he maintained an amazing GPA of 4.2 and was awarded the High Achiever Award and the Transfer Student Award at the ANC Graduation 2016.

Upon completing his required course credit in Sri Lanka, Aravinth had a smooth transfer to his preferred university in the USA to complete his engineering degree. “First time leaving home and flying to a faraway land sounded fascinating. At the same time, leaving all the comforts at home wasn’t that easy. By joining university clubs and societies, I made new friends and that helped me overcome many challenges as there was a network of friends to support and rely on,” Aravinth shared his experience as a freshman at an American university.

The SUNY at Stony Brook is one top 50 public universities in America that has been ranked in the top 1% of higher education institutions worldwide by the Center for World University Rankings. “ANC Education helped me take one of the best decisions in my life by transferring me to the SUNY at Stony Brook. Academic and professional standards of the university are very high with extremely knowledgeable and helpful professors who work around the clock to help students succeed. The US university curriculum also involves both traditional in class teaching and hands on experience in the field – which is equally challeng- ing and stimulating. As engineering students, we get to build machine prototypes and work on industrial machines to produce miniatures of real products in the market. All these enhances our learning experience,” he said confidently.

Aravinth has accomplished a lot both academically and personally within a period of less than a year making use of every opportunity, living his dream in America. In a university with a large student population of about 25000, Aravinth’s achievements are a testimony to opportunities and possibilities that await students who transfer to US universities, regardless of the part of the world they come from. He has clearly set a new benchmark for Sri Lankan transfer students, motivating them to reach higher academic and career goals.

Advising local students after O/Levels and A/Levels, Aravinth stressed on the need to find a reliable education partner to take the first step forward in the degree attainment process. “If you are to accomplish your goals, you must find the most suitable degree program and the transfer option. I was wise to choose the US University Transfer Program at ANC. The USA is the home to the majority of the world’s top ranked universities. There are great opportunities out there after graduation to acquire good work experience. Most countries recognize American degrees - and with the qualification you gain, you can choose to live anywhere in the world or get back to Sri Lanka upon graduation to kick start a successful career. If you stumble upon the opportunity to enter an American degree program, do not hesitate to accept it. But it is important that you rely on the right education partner to direct you in the right path,” Aravinth said thanking ANC for opening doors, leading him to the SUNY at Stony Brook to receive a true lifechanging experience and exposure in America.
