Rotaract Champions League 2017 begins next Sunday
The 3rd Rotaract Champions League (RCL) 2017 will begin from next Sunday with various sports activities scheduled after a grand opening ceremony to be held at the St. Joseph’s College Indoor Stadium in Darley Road.
The RCL 2017 is a three-day sports extravaganza happening for the third consecutive year, where various individual and team sports will be held in three weekends giving the young trendsetters from all over the country an unique opportunity to come together, showcase their talents and most of all connect together. The league will take place on February 5, 18 and 19 from 8.30am onwards. The highlights of the respective days are Indoor sports, outdoor sports and mainly athletics. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at St. Joseph’s Indoor Stadium with the participation of over 800 Rotaractors.
Rotaract is a youth-led, voluntary organisation where students and young professionals aged between 18 to 30 come together to serve the community while developing themselves to become outstanding professionals and active citizens who will work towards the betterment of their society. Rotaract is considered as the youth programme of Rotary International, one of the largest service organisations in the world. Currently Rotaract movement is active in 177 countries and it was established in Sri Lanka in 1969.
Sri Lanka and Maldives are considered as one district in Rotary International which has over 70 State Universities, Higher Education Institutes. Community and Corporate based Rotaract Clubs in both Sri Lanka and Maldives where the programmes are being initiated and conducted with the support of more than 2500 youth volunteers known as Rotaractors, who are also young professionals, entrepreneurs and higher education students. All these clubs conduct more than 1600 social action projects annually, bringing positive changes in their respective communities and beyond.
With its theme ‘Vision to Action’ launched by the DRR Mohamed Husni in July 2016, the Rotaract Programmes in Sri Lanka for 2016-17 have been designed under the overall strategic focus of “Inclusive Youth Development: Promoting Civic Engagement”. This is with a special focus on promoting role of youth in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make Rotaract an ‘All in One hub for Youth Development’.
