Principal in hot water for displaying MR's photo
A school in the Matugama Educational area is embroiled in a dispute over the display of a photograph of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa instead of Pre s i d e n t Maithripala Sirisena.
The Principal of the school in Badureliya is facing a disciplinary inquiry, and has been transferred to the Zonal Education Office ( ZEO) pending same. This issue has led to a division among students, parents and past pupils.
However, on Wednesday, a section of the parents forcibly entered the ZEO and 'abducted' the principal close to the school, appealing to him to return to duty.
Officer- in- Charge ( OIC) of the Badureliya Police station, who was present outside the school premises, inquired from the Principal as to whether he had written permission to return to the school, and was told that he only had verbal approval from a Deputy Director.
