“Visakha Siyawas Udana 2017” Educationa­l exhibition Mar.30-Apr.1

Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, has organised an Educationa­l exhibition titled “Visakha Siyawas Udana 2017”, from March 30 to April 1, at its premises, to mark the 100th anniversar­y of the school.

The organisers said people would have the opportunit­y to experience a journey in a spacecraft on a model of the surface of Mars built at the exhibition premises.They said the Sojourner rover which carried the Infrared camera made by Sri Lanka-born scientist at NASA, Dr Sarath Gunapala, will be operated on the surface.

The organisers also said that a model of a rural house will also built to teach traditions and customs to students. In parallel with the exhibition, a TV and an FM station titled Visakha TV and Visakha FM respective­ly, has been set up.

Principal Mrs Sandamali Aviruppola stated that the exhibition will cover a variety of fields and will focus mainly on scientific innovation. She invites the public, especially schoolchil­dren, to witness this event.

The exhibition is organised by the staff and the students, with the assistance of wellwisher­s and sponsors.

The past pupils have also organised a carnival “Visakha Siyawas Jayanthiya” on April 7 and 8, the proceeds from which would be used to further expand a building in the Primary section.
