Gateway continues its dominance at COMUN
At yet another annual bout of intense diplomatic debate at the twenty third Colombo Model United Nations conference, the hard work, dedication and the professionalism of Gateway’s delegates saw them take home more ‘Best Delegate’ awards than any other school in the country. Following three gruelling days of debate, lobbying and resolution writing, Gateway delegates emerged glorious in their individual victories, rising predominantly above the standard of competition of their fellow delegates in the respective committees by winning Best Delegate, Higher Commendation and Honorary Mention awards.
Anish Fonseka, Philip Surendran, Senith Wanigasuriya, and Deveen Harischandra secured Best Delegate awards successfully in General Assembly One, General Assembly Three, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the World Health Assembly respectively. Kumal Udamulla and Philip Surendran were key members of the Russian Federation that won the ‘Best Delegation’ award.
Yasiru Induwara and Isuru Abeysekara achieved Higher Commendation awards in General Assembly Three and the Futuristic Security Council. Kumal Udamulla, Maleeka Hassan, Ruqaiyah Shiraz, Areeb Atheek and Shanaya Algama secured Honorary Mention awards in General Assembly One, General Assembly Four and ECOSOC.
The continuous support and the encouragement of the alumni of Gateway College has assisted the delegates to continue to excel. Their experience and the commitment help the students of Gateway to speak and assimilate knowledge on the workings of the United Nations.
