Gateway continues its dominance at COMUN

At yet another annual bout of intense diplomatic debate at the twenty third Colombo Model United Nations conference, the hard work, dedication and the profession­alism of Gateway’s delegates saw them take home more ‘Best Delegate’ awards than any other school in the country. Following three gruelling days of debate, lobbying and resolution writing, Gateway delegates emerged glorious in their individual victories, rising predominan­tly above the standard of competitio­n of their fellow delegates in the respective committees by winning Best Delegate, Higher Commendati­on and Honorary Mention awards.

Anish Fonseka, Philip Surendran, Senith Wanigasuri­ya, and Deveen Harischand­ra secured Best Delegate awards successful­ly in General Assembly One, General Assembly Three, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the World Health Assembly respective­ly. Kumal Udamulla and Philip Surendran were key members of the Russian Federation that won the ‘Best Delegation’ award.

Yasiru Induwara and Isuru Abeysekara achieved Higher Commendati­on awards in General Assembly Three and the Futuristic Security Council. Kumal Udamulla, Maleeka Hassan, Ruqaiyah Shiraz, Areeb Atheek and Shanaya Algama secured Honorary Mention awards in General Assembly One, General Assembly Four and ECOSOC.

The continuous support and the encouragem­ent of the alumni of Gateway College has assisted the delegates to continue to excel. Their experience and the commitment help the students of Gateway to speak and assimilate knowledge on the workings of the United Nations.
