Einstein House emerge champs

Defending champions Einstein House with a tally of 640 points emerged victorious at the annual Inter House athletic meet 2017 of Government Science College Matale held at the college ground last week under the patronage of Assistant Director of Education, Matale Education Zone R.M. Bandaranayake, who was the chief guest. The former principal of the college W.B. Herath graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

Darwin House with 639 points finished a close second followed by Lavoshire House, third with 586 points. W.M.W.A. Wellawatta of Einstein House was adjudged as the Most Outstanding male athlete while W.M.K. Onesha Kulasingha of Lavoshire House was crowned as the best female athlete.

The colourful drill display presented by over 225 girls from Grade 10, 11 and 12 thrilled the spectators. They were trained by teacher Wimala Sirisena assisted by senior girls of the school.

This year’s athletic meet was well organised and it was well attended by students, past students, teachers and parents. The organising committee headed by the Principal C.N. Hettiarachchi included two deputy principals J.A. Sahampath, Ms. K.D.E.C. Nanayakkara and Teacher of Physical Education W.M.C.S.K. Wijesooriya.
