No hiccups at Cycling T'Cup
Mahamaya Balika Vi d y a l a y a , K a n dy and Killerwhale Aquatics won the Women’s and Men’s Overall Championships as top ranked teams with 286.50 and 244 points respectively at the National and Sub-National (Under15) National Aquatic Championship 2017 concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Complex yesterday.
In the Individual Championships Ganga Seneviratne of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and Alvin Arulmaran of Gateway College, Colombo emerged winners in the Under-15 Group with highest points. In the Team events Ramudi Samarakoon of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and Kyle Abeysinghe of Killerwhale Aquatics were crowned as champions for highest ranked swimmers with highest points.
Seneviratne ( 25 points) and Arulmaran ( 25 points) were ranked highest in the Under- 15 Girls and Boys events while Samarakoon ( 25 points) and Abeysinghe ( 21) points were the top ranked swimmers in the Women’s and Men’s Team events.
Visakha Vidyalaya (279 points) and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Balika Vidyalaya (149 points) finished as the first and second runners- up in the Women’s Team events. St. Joseph’s College, Colombo (195 points) and Ananda College, Colombo ( 169 points) occupied the second and third spots in the Men’s Team events.
In the Under- 15 Girls category behind Lyceum International, Visakha Vidyalaya (177 points) and Gateway College, Kandy ( 93 points) ended as the first and second runners- up respectively. Lyceum International, Wattala and St. Joseph’s College, Colombo with 113 and 111 points were the first and second runners-up in the Under 15 Boys events.
Six new records were established at this year’s four day edition in Boys Under- 15 50m LC Backstroke, Women’s 4x100m LC Medley Relay, Girls Under-15 100m LC Freestyle, Girls Under15 4x100mm LC Freestyle Relay, Women’s 4x50m LC Freestyle Relay and Men’s 4x50m LC Freestyle Relay events.
This event was treated as a selection trial for the 17th Federal Internationale De Natatation ( FINA) Championship 2017 to be held in Budapest, Hungary.
