Action water sport lures UK travellers

-

The Lanka Powerboat Association is set to attract new travellers from the UK to view the Formula 2 (water sport) racing season in Colombo.

The revolutionary action motorsport scheduled to be held this month will be launched at the Waters Edge from May 27-28 with the participation of world F2 Champion Mette Brandt Bjerknes from Norway, the Lanka Powerboat Association ( LPA) stated in a media release.

They noted that some of the UK travellers will also be participating at this event and being high spenders the event is seen as having attracted most visitors and competitors to travel the country from five to 14 days.

The event is marketed in key markets in a bid to attract more tourists to the destination that would entice motorsport enthusiasts to witness this event and the Sri Lankan hospitality as well, event organisers stated.

The LPA will unveil a unique schedule for a Formula 2 Powerboat Training and Racing season with a spectacular launch event and Ms. Bjerknes set to put one of the newly acquired F2 boats through its paces, providing a breathtaking on water display.

F2 Powerboat Racing uses a tunnel hull catamaran design that is capable of both high speeds and exceptional manoeuvrability, the release said.

Due to their specially designed hulls, F2 boats are able to turn almost instantaneously incurring more G forces than any other racing machine on the planet. With an extremely high power to weight ratio the acceleration of the F2 hull is truly phenomenal with acceleration measuring 0 - 100 kph is less than 5 seconds. The F2 Class is set to be the pinnacle of circuit racing in Sri Lanka, LPA stated.

Ms. Bjerknes will also be offering Formula 1 2-seater experiences on a fast, noisy and thrilling experience that these passenger rides offer onboard the ultimate boat ride at speeds of up to 190kph.
