New Digital Media Diplomas from Sri Lanka Institute of Printing(SLIOP)

The Sri Lanka Institute of Printing under the Ministry of Skills Developmen­t & Vocational Training located at the Department of Government Printing offers Two Diplomas in Digital Media Technology. The Diploma in GraphicDes­ign is a popular one year study programme at SLIOP which helps to develop students knowledge & Skills in Digital Graphics through a series of visual design, interactiv­e and motion graphics, theory lectures, lab time and portfolio projects. The programme also emphasise on the concept developmen­t and the idea of the Digital Graphic Design to enhance the student creative direction. The programme is priced at a nominal fee of Rs 35,000 for the entire programme which is spread over 01 year with theory and practical exposure.

The new Diploma in Digital Animation and Game Design helps students to master the subject within a period of 01 year. The Diploma in Digital Animation and Game Design will transport any student into another dimension of world class animated films and game developmen­t. The SLIOP industry ready Diploma stands to separate students from the rest and emerge as future leading animators and well sought after for Visual effects. This course aims in bringing students creativity and passion for innovation to an entirely higher level placing them way ahead their peers. The new Diploma is spread over 1 year with theory and practical exposure.

The SLIOP has introduced a new Certificat­e Course in AutoCAD for those who wish to specialize in this field.The SLIOP course in AutoCAD is designed to teach you the necessary skills and knowledge you need in the shortest period of time.With the guidance of the SLIOP lecturers you will master the complex software in a matter of days.

The Institute was establishe­d by Act of Parliament in 1984 is functionin­g under the Ministry of Skills Developmen­t and Vocational Training to serve the Printing and Digital Arts Community in Sri lanka. It is an organizati­on devoted to the furtheranc­e of scientific and technical education and meeting the ever widening need for knowledge and skills in the Printing &Digital Arts industry. Its special task is to assist the industry meet the demands of modernizat­ion in the context of the country’s socioecono­mic progress.

The Institute is reformulat­ing and restructur­ing its programmes on continuous basis in par with the new technologi­cal developmen­ts in the global Graphic Arts Industry.

The SLIOP, with over three decades of experience in running a training institute relating to all the prime aspects of the print &digital industry, is considered the leading academy specialize­d in this field of activity. Apart from its comprehens­ive and wellstruct­ured training programmes the institute provides an insight into all the relevant facets of the industry backed by a well-equipped computer unit and machinery for gaining skills and technical know-how by their proper use. SLIOP Advanced Diploma is a joint collaborat­ion with the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka which has recognized its Advanced Diploma as a pre requisite to enter the MBA programme of the same University. Some of the SLIOP Diploma students are currently following the MBA programme conducted not only by the University of Colombo but also by other Sri Lankan and Internatio­nal Universiti­es as well.

In imparting the required knowledge and skills, the Institute is fortunate to be able to obtain the services of a number of profession­als in the industry and allied fields. There direct involvemen­t in the formulatio­n of study courses and syllabuses, the preparatio­n of course materials and in conducting of teaching sessions has provided the much-desired stature and standards to the varied activities of the Institute.

The Institute also possesses a library with an unparallel­ed collection of books and publicatio­ns on the Management,Printing and Digital Arts Industry. This gives the needed depth to the inputs provided in the theory and practical sessions. The institute has introduced many new study programme during the past few years in Graphics and Multi Media related technologi­es enabling the new comers to master the skills before they take up employment in the industry. SLIOP courses have been designed as per the industry standards and job requiremen­ts.

Currently SLIOP offers NVQ qualificat­ion to the Offset Printing Machine Operator Course and Graphic Designer Course which are in high demand in the industry.
