The new administration of the Matara District Cricket Association together with Matara Municipal Council’s ground staff were seen preparing the practice turf wickets which had been kept under lock and key and not been maintained or made use for a considerable time.

There are two concrete practice wickets and three eight foot turf practice strips administered by the Matara DCA at the Uyanwatta stadium. Secretary of the MDCA and Provincial Coordinator (Southern Province) for Sri Lanka Cricket Prasanna Galappaththi who was supervising the preparation of the side wickets said that the practice sessions of the southern provincial squads would have to be held in Matara as the Galle International Cricket Stadium has been reserved for the forthcoming Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka.

He also said that the MDCA had requested for a bowling machine from SLC and looked forward to receiving it within the next fortnight. “The MDCA needs the support of Sri Lanka Cricket and the Matara Municipal Council to make best use of the Uyanwatta stadium” Galappaththi added.
