What no VAT?

The VAT uploading system at the Inland Revenue Department ( IRD) has been badly implemented and not working for many months now.

Under this system, filing of VAT details was supposed to be through the computer system. However, the system has not been working for the last six months and the IRD insists all the companies to personally come to the department and upload the information, causing a long line. Most of the time people are wasting half to one day waiting in line to install the data into the IRD computers.

In an efficient system, each company should be able to upload the information from their own company through the web page. Yet the system is not working and nobody in the IRD seems to be bothered about it, since they are having monopoly power and we are all supposed to be slaves. Kindly, bring this to public attention in the best interest of the country and tax collection, and to improve the efficiency in our beloved country. Concerned Citizen Colombo
