World Environment Day at MMI

-

orld Environment Day’ is celebrated around the world in many ways, including street rallies, green concerts, essay’s, poster competitions, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean- up campaigns and much more.

At MMI Sri Lanka, teachers planned some effective programs to generate awareness among our students such as the importance of the 3 R’s. Teaching children at a young age to recycle, reduce and reuse will help preserve our environment for tomorrow. A good understanding on

how recycling can help the envi- ronment, will help future generations to automatically think of the world around them.

Using a display of material dividing paper, metal, polythene and consumables the children were taught as to why we need to separate trash for recycling. They also learnt the importance of using less polythene and reusing materials such as cloth bags instead.

Keeping our environment clean was also a topic discussed where the youngest students helped in keeping their surroundings clean.
