Walala Central Boys, Girls reign supreme as undisputed champs
Reigning champions Walala A. Rathnayake Central College (Walala Central) from the Wattegama Educational Zone (EZ), won both the Boys and Girls championships at the Central Province ( CP) Inter EZ Track & Field Meet 2017, concluded at Bogambara stadium Kandy last week.
Walala Central clinched the Boys championship with 253 points, for the 19th occasion, while Trinity College Kandy (TCK) came 2nd with 188 points, followed by St. Sylvesters Kandy with 98 points.
Walala Central also clinched the Girls championship for the 25th consecutive year, with 196 points, while Ambagamuwa MMV came 2nd with 106 points, followed by Swarnamali Balika Kandy with 98 points.
S. P. Aruna Darshana of We e r a ke p p e t i p o l a C e n t r a l Akuramboda (Galewela EZ) with the best timing of 48.2 sec in the Under (U)-20 Boys 400m, was adjudged Best Male Athlete while Dulci Maheesha Shayamali Kumarasingha of Walala Central was adjudged Best Female Athlete for winning the U- 20 Girls 400m in 55.8 sec.
The 4- day CP School’s Track & Field Meet organised by the CP Assistant Director of Education ( Sports) Athula Jayawardhana under the supervision of CP Director of Education Thilak Ekanayake, had over 3000 Athletes (Boys and Girls) representing 15 EZs in the CP, taking part. 14.7 sec) Mahamaya College Kandy
