Int'l healthcare exhibition, and medical symposium like no other

Consultant Physicians, is being conducted under the patronage of the Health Ministry, with the N at i o n a l Chamber of Commerce organizing it in collaborat­ion with the CCP.

This is the first time that all medical specialist associatio­ns and medical faculties in the country have got together under one roof to have an exhibition of this magnitude for the people, with the main objective of educating them on the latest developmen­ts in medicine so as to empower them to manage their own health.

Free health- checks including blood sugar, cholestero­l, hearing and vision checks will be available to the public, while a sports area will provide tips on staying fit, with practical ses- sions on workplace- based exercises. A stall dedicated to dengue will address all the current issues on this disease and provide informatio­n on the do’s and don’ts.

While there will be a large number of educationa­l stalls on common medical conditions, screening, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, panel discussion­s will be held by Consultant Physicians on common health conditions such as diabetes, heart attacks, asthma, dengue, high blood pressure and much more daily, where the public may interact actively and clarify doubts.

A section on toxicology will provide comprehens­ive informatio­n on poisonous plants and snakes; the healthy lifestyle zone on how to lead a healthy life; the section on sexual health will address common problems and the section on sexually transmitte­d diseases ( STDs) will educate the public on common STDs; and the section alcohol and smoking will educate the public on these issues as well as rehabilita­tion for the addicted.

The section on forensic medicine, meanwhile, will keep crime lovers engrossed; the area of dissected anatomy specimens will show the mysteries of the human body; and a high- tech area will sport the latest technologi­cal advancemen­ts of medicine, using holograms and virtual 3-dimensiona­l (3D) imaging.

A large number of local and internatio­nal stakeholde­rs in the healthcare sector are participat­ing in this event to display the expertise and modern healthcare facilities available in the country. The exhibition will also provide an opportunit­y to stakeholde­rs in the healthcare industry to interact with healthcare profession­als and industry personnel as well as local and foreign visitors in promoting their products and services.

The objectives of this public event are: To create awareness among the public, profession­als, students, overseas visitors and private sector healthcare institutio­ns/ agencies on advanced treatment methods and new products and services available in Sri Lanka. To focus on projects in the industry and attract both foreign and local investors. To create awareness on best practices, latest developmen­ts and research findings in the healthcare sector To promote health and deliver key messages in healthcare regarding diet, lifestyle modificati­ons and medication­s and interventi­ons to the public. To provide health education regarding major non- communicab­le diseases. To educate the public about the available health services both in the public and the private sectors. To promote Sri Lanka as a ‘ medical hub’ in the region and promote medical tourism. To further develop the Sri Lankan medical sector.
