Raigam recognizes talents in television
A theatre festival with renowned plays by late Prof. Ediriweera Sarathchandra will be held from July 14 to 16 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre, Colombo.
The festival includes ‘’Sinhabahu’’, a play that is a prescribed text for the G. C. E O/L Sinhala Syllabus, on at 3.30 & 7.00 p.m on July 14, ‘’Maname’’ on Saturday, July 15 and ‘’Rathnawalee’’, a play which is also a prescribed text for the G. C. E A/L Sinhala Syllabus) on Sunday July 16.
All seats are box planned and tickets are available at Lionel Wendt Theatre.
The 13th Raigam Telees Award Ceremony which was held recently ended recognizing many new talents in television. In the teledrama category, ‘Deveni Inima’ was adjudged the Most Popular Tele Drama with the Most Popular Tele Drama Actor being awarded to Ruwan Perera and the Most Popular Tele Drama Actress to Nayana Thara Wickramarachchi.
A number of awards in the teledrama category including the Best Teledrama of the year were won by teledrama ‘One Way’ telecast on ITN. The teleplay won the Best Tele- drama make up artist- Wasantha Wittachchi, Best Art Director -Aruna Medakumura, Best Music Director– Nalaka Anjana Kumara, Best Lyricist of –Bandara Eheliyagoda, Best Teledrama Singer – Kolitha Bhanu Disanayake, Best Editor-Indika Jayawardhane, Best Tele-drama Upcoming Actress-Nadeesha Madushani Rupasinghe, Best Supporting Actress - Chandani Senevirathne, Best Script Writer
- Lalith Rathnayake, Best Teledrama Actor - Pubudu Chathuranga. ‘One Way was’ was directed by Lalith Rathnayake and it is produced by H. D. Premasiri , Bandula Ekanayake , Channa Fernando , Bandara Eheliyagoda.
In addition among the other awards, Best Tele- drama Singer – Female was won by Purnima Dananjani, Best Upcoming ActorSajitha Anuththara Anthani (Bohimiyanu– swarnavahini), Best Supporting Actor Lakshman Mendis (Maddahana – ITN), Best Single Episode Tele drama ‘Urumakkarayo’ (Sitha Niwana Katha) –Rupavahini - Dayarathna Ratagedara and Best Tele- drama Actress Umali Thilakarathne (Bohimiyanuwa).
