The Paradigm Shifting University

-

Researchers at Swinburne have been awarded $444,263 by the Australian Government to complete the design of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) pulsar timing signal processor.

Swinburne to Lead Pulsar Timing Instrument Design

The highly specialized hardware and software designed by the team will enable some of the highest impact science with the SKA, including observations of radio pulsars to test Einstein’s general theory of relativity.

Radio pulsars are one of nature’s finest clocks and can be used to test the predictions of the theory of relativity with exquisite accuracy. By timing an array of pulsars distributed across the Galaxy, the SKA will search for the low-frequency gravitational waves created by super-massive black holes that orbit each other after galaxies merge.

Pursuing this cornerstone science of the SKA requires a highperformance pulsar timing machine capable of the high-speed signal processing necessary to measure the arrival time of pulses with nanosecond precision.

Once completed, the SKA will be the world’s premier instrument for pulsar timing.

Swinburne Blazes Trails in Science, Technology And Innovation

“Ventures like this highlight the depth of expertise at Swinburne in science, technology and innovation – and in particular our leading role in astrophysics,” says Deputy ViceChancellor Research and Development, Professor Aleksandar Subic.

The SKA project is an international effort to build the world’s largest and most sensitive radio telescope, eventually comprising over a square kilometre (one million square metres) of collecting area.

Construction of the SKA is expected to commence by 2019.

Be a part of the Paradigm Shifting University

By joining Swinburne, students will be inspired by the best lecturers and top minds who are blazing trails in technology at the University, as well as across the world. Students will not only be a part of such activities, but they will also be a part of the university that is at the forefront of technological innovation. The educational environment will inspire students to innovate and be the best. They will be affiliated with a university that is creating bench marks in the scientific community. This will increase their individual brand value too. Be the Best with Swinburne Opportunities to be a part of projects that are taking the scientific world by storm, will add value and make students a cut above their peers, as the university pushes frontiers.

Space is the next frontier, and Swinburne and its graduates will be at the fore front of the trail. Students won’t be a mere part of existing research, but will instead be a part of the latest trends in technology, thereby becoming a paradigm shifter.

The inspiration gathered will give the attributes to be a change agent on returning to Sri Lanka, enabling them to achieve their dreams.

Nawaloka College of Higher Studies

NCHS is a guaranteed pathway to the Swinburne University of Technology and will open the door to a future filled with the latest and best trends in Science, Engineering and Innovation.

The pathway programs available locally, are specially designed to prepare students for success in their further studies. The Foundation Year helps students meet the entry requirements for the bachelors degree. The UniLink diplomas provide a direct pathway into the second year of the bachelor degree. Having completed part of the degree locally, the students can select which international campus they prefer to continue their studies in. Convenient Location Located in the heart of Colombo, the NCHS campus consists of modern facilities, providing students with a learning environmentof international standards. The campus boasts of a library, laboratories and class rooms on par with any global university. Global Education Network NCHS has also partnered with global leaders in education, California State University, Monterey Bay and the Ulster University, to give Sri Lankan students the option of selecting a degree program that is tailor made to their requirements.

International Quality Assurance Benchmarks

The study programs conducted at NCHS are identical to that of Swinburne, Australia and follow the same curriculum, methods of teaching and evaluations, ensuring high quality and international standards. The facilities at NCHS are built according to the specifications of the partner universities, ensuring that the students have nothing but the best!

At NCHS, students enjoy smaller classes, focused learning and oneon-one time with the teachers, giving every opportunity to succeed in studies.
