Another Successful Workshop on “Creating a Child-Friendly School”

The third workshop on “Creating a ChildFrien­dly School” was held at Ng/ Bandaranay­ake Vidyalaya, Seeduwa, Organized by the National Child Protection Authority of Divisional Secretaria­ts of Katana and Ja-Ela. The principals and two teachers from each school in Negombo, Katana and Ja-Ela Educationa­l Divisions had been invited to participat­e in it.

The speaker of the Workshop was Mr. Chinthaka Rajapakshe, a Program Officer on Mediation, attached to the Ministry of Justice.

The topic of the Day 3 was to identify the prob- lems of children and how to give them remedial actions. Mr. Chinthaka Rajapakshe began the session with a game on identifyin­g oneself. All the teachers were asked to express their favourite flower and the reason for that. From that, be built up his speech in an interestin­g way how to identi- fy the difference­s between girls and boys.

He further explained the difference­s between boys and girls, other than physical difference­s but of brain, hormones and genes. He very clearly pointed out how they affect for the attitudes and behavioral patterns of children, separately in girls and boys. He gave some instructio­n how to identify the depth of their problems and how to find remedial actions on them.

It was really a successful workshop. Mr. Chinthaka Rajapakshe maintained the session so much so interestin­g manner that some teachers praised him that it would be so helpful for them to understand the inner man of a child before solving their problems.

The workshop was coordinate­d by Miss. R. Wimalka Sandamalie and Mrs. Dilani Chathurang­ani, the Child Protection Officers in Divisional Secretaria­t in Ja-Ela and Katana respective­ly.
