Global entrepreneurs group sets up Sri Lanka chapter
The formation of the Entrepreneurs' Organisation ( EO), Sri Lanka was announced at a media briefing in Colombo last week. EO is the world's largest peer-topeer network of entrepreneurs to learn and grow. It is a global business community of over 12,000 leading entrepreneurs in 160 chapters present in 53 countries. EO Sri Lanka is the 20th chapter in the South Asian region.
Yasendra Amarasinghe, President, Sri Lanka EO Chapter, told reporters at the media briefing that the country is gaining international prominence and it's time to nurture entrepreneurial spirit, to grow themselves both personally and professionally and in turn grow the Sri Lankan economy. He said that EO could facilitate and open doors to many entrepreneurs who want to come to Sri Lanka and also network with overseas Sri Lanka globally as they have access to regional and global events.
"We have access to regional and global events in terms of learning, providing opportunities for Sri Lankan entrepreneurs. South Asia is growing so fast," he indicated. On the sidelines of the media briefing, Mr Amarasinghe told the Business Times that this organisation would make entrepreneurs better people, improve personally and professionally which is important. It is not just creating better businessmen but also it creates better husbands, better fathers, better sons and better wives.
He said, "The business will improve, the society will improve and we do this primarily through peer to peer learning. These respected people will share their experiences and you can be supportive when there is a problem." He said that the EO coming to Sri Lanka would allow access to exceptional people, events and experts who can at times help in situations where members have personal or professional difficulties.
He said that they are very selective in enrolling members to EO primarily because they need people to follow the core values of EO.
Sanjay Wadwa, Executive Finance, Global Board Member, said that normally, Sri Lankans would be visiting trade fairs in other countries to see whether they could export their products to other countries. He said that the Sri Lankan EO members would get a greater opportunity as they could visit all these 53 countries and they can cooperate with the EO members in other countries and extend their businesses to other countries.
EO was founded 30 years ago to help leading business owners on their path to greater professional success and personal fulfilment and to enrich the lives through dynamic peer-to-peer learning. This is an influential community of entrepreneurs, supporting the business owners in all aspects of business.
