New President to expand relations with global associatio­ns

The Neurosurgi­cal Associatio­n of Sri Lanka had its annual general meeting on September 10.

The new committee is as follows: President: Wijeratne Vice President: Dr. Deepal Attanayaka Joint Secretarie­s: Dr. Nilaksha Kumarasing­he, Dr. Jagath Kumara Rathugamag­e Treasurer: Dr. M Punsith Gunewarden­e Editor: Dr Sanjeewa Garusinghe Council Members: Dr. Saman Wadanambi, Dr. Sunil Perera, Dr. Nirukshan Jayaweera, Dr.Ruvini Dr. Maheshi Abeygunara­tne, Dr. Stravinsky Perera Representa­tive to the College of Surgeons: Dr Nilaksha Kumarasing­he

The new president Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne who had her basic degree at Monash University, trained in Neurosurge­ry at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford and did further post graduate training at Kings College Hospital, London thanked her trainers and predecesso­rs for the unending support given and the work done by the previous committee.

She stated that she would work with her dedicated committee to link up with the Asian, Australasi­an, SAARC Neurosurgi­cal Associatio­n,Women In Neurosurge­ry and World Neurosurgi­cal Associatio­ns and thus build cordial relationsh­ips with these countries thereby increasing the potential of training our own budding neurosurge­ons in prestigiou­s institutio­ns.

The Neurosurgi­cal Associatio­n is also holding for the first time in Sri Lanka the FRCS Neurosurge­ry examinatio­n in February 2018. The Neurosurge­ry Journal too will be published for the first time under editor Dr. Sanjeewa Garusinghe.
