A great moment of MSU Malaysia - 21st convocation
The Management & Science University (MSU Malaysia) held its 21st convocation on 6 and 7 August 2017 at MSU Malaysia. A total of 1, 871 graduates from across 77 study programmes received their academic degrees in Doctorate’s Degree Studies ( 35), Master’s Degree ( 42), Bachelor’s Degree ( 883) and diploma’s studies (911) from various disciplines.
MSU also awarded Honorary Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Science to Japan’s Josai International University (JIU) President, Professor Dr Kenji Sugibayashi for his developmental and innovative contributions to local and international pharmaceutical science field. The scrolls were awarded by MSU Chancellor, Her Majesty Tuanku Hajah Haminah Haji Hamidun. Also present was MSU & MSI President Professor Tan Sri Dato Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab.Yajid.
Two programme of studies saw its first batch of graduates which are Master in Biomedical Sciences and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
The special awards - The Chancellor’s Gold Medal, the President’s Award Mohd Shukri Yajid Outstanding Award, the Academic Award and the Industry Award of the University went out to 59 graduates for their outstanding achievements in academic and extra-curriculum.
Management & Science University, Malaysia has established the Management & Science Institute in Colombo to create better opportunities for Sri Lankan students in order to receive an excellent education at home.

In an international rating exercise undertaken by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), MSU received Five Star ratings for Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Social Responsibility and Inclusiveness.
MSU is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities ( ACU) and recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka & also its medical ( MBBS) programme has recognized by Sri Lankan Medical Council (SLMC).
The research based PhD programme offered by MSU, meets the international standards by complementing the thesis work with minimum of three journal publications. The programme is conducted as per the schedules provided by the university that consist a defense presentation, thesis work, work completion seminar and the final defense of VIVA. A Malaysian supervisor who is assigned by the university and a local academic advisors guides the PhD candidates. Monthly progress monitoring and all exams are conducted by MSU Malaysia.

It was a moment of utmost delight and happiness for me and my family since it had been my long cherished wish: PhD. MSU has facilitated me to fulfill my dream... The doctorate program specialization in management/ business at MSU was extremely enlightening in many aspects, chief among them being up- to- date, content as well as innovative research culture.
It was a wonderful experience to work under great supervisors and advisers who will truly go the extra mile for their student’s studies, with proper guideline which helped me immensely to complete my PhD as scheduled. I am sure that the
Kasuni Silva’s career at MAS Intimates, a USD 1.6 billion apparel manufacturer with 50 state-of-the-art facilities in 15 countries, evolved from finance to marketing within a space of 13 years. “It has been a gradual transition to my current role,” says Kasuni who is one of the Marketing Directors at MAS Intimates at present and is also an entrepreneur. With an educational background in CIMA and a BBA from the University of Colombo, Kasuni began her diverse career by working in the finance department. “I wanted to move beyond financial accounting, therefore I eventually moved to a strategic planning and management accounting position. This was followed by working within production planning, which is the essence of the manufacturing industry which I am in,” elaborates Kasuni.
She believes that marketing is the ultimate discipline for her, as it exposes her to consumer insights and can actively contribute towards driving a P&L. “Managing the customer in a B2B marketing role requires the ability to look at the business from many fronts and this is where the CIMA overall Knowledge and research experience received by this PhD programme will assist me to bring outstanding contributions to my work life whilst achieving the career advancement.
I truly enjoyed to study with MSU and I would intensely recommend this program to potential ambitious academics or professional who are interested to upgrade their knowledge and skills in PhD level.
Parakum serves on the board of the Sri Lankan ISACA chapter as the immediate past President and a founding member of the local ISC2 chapter. Under Parakum’s leadership, ISACA Sri Lanka chapter was selected for the 2016 K. Wayne Snipes Award as the Regional Winner for the Best Medium Chapter in Asia. Further, Parakum is the Assistant Treasurer of Computer Society of Sri Lanka. Parakum is a regular speaker at local information Security conferences. Parakum’s research interests include social media and the financial sector, mobile payments and has authored and presented number of publications on both local and International journals/ conferences.
My PhD research area was Innovation and Performance management in the field of Management and Business. The Phd programme in field of Management and business at MSU helped me to gain world class knowledge through inculcating thorough excellent research culture. The international exposure gained on research and publications was beneficial in increasing my overall Business Management Knowledge and research experience. The opportunity to learn and engage with international academics and students shaped my research and professional competencies. The great supervision provided my supervisor at MSU, Malaysia helped me immensely to complete my PhD study successfully, which has become a lifelong learning and encouraged me towards achieving my goals. This structured programme at MSU helped me to complete my studies on schedule. I thank MSU for making it happen.
