SBI Japan acquires 20% of Wealth Trust Securities Ltd

Tokyo-based SBI Holdings Inc has concluded an agreement to acquire 20 per cent of the shares of Wealth Trust Securities Ltd (WTS), and provide investment products, primarily Sri Lankan bonds, through its subsidiary, SBI Securities Co. Ltd to the Japanese market.

WTS is a licensed Sri Lankan primary dealer in government securities appointed by the Central Bank with direct access to both the primary and secondary government securities markets.

Its board of directors comprises Dr. Anura Ekanayake (Chairman), Dammika Ranawana (Managing Director) and Directors Mangala Boyagoda, Senaka Weerasoori­a and Ruwan Cooray with Viraj Malawana functionin­g as Consultant Internatio­nal Markets for the company, a media release from the company said. Romesh Gomez is the company CEO. The SBI Group intends to collaborat­e with WTS to promote Sri Lankan government securities and corporate debt as high yield investment instrument­s to Japanese investors through SBI Securities.

“The Sri Lankan bond market is showing aggressive growth from its relatively small scale which makes it a good time for SBI to enter the market. The SBI Group has previously acquired a stake of First Guardian Equities Pvt. Limited of Sri Lanka and is currently promoting equity transactio­ns on the Colombo bourse to its Japanese clients,” the release added.

The Institute of Certified Profession­al Managers (CPM) will be organising the CPM Regional Management Conference 2017 (CRMC 2017) in collaborat­ion with the Associatio­n of Management Developmen­t Institutio­ns in South Asia (AMDISA) at the BMICH on September 26-27. The AMDISA consists of management institutio­ns in the South Asian Region.

CRMC 2017 will be represente­d by members from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanista­n. Sri Lanka will host the Board Meeting of AMDISA on September 26 which will be held at the PIM. Sri Lankan members include PIM, CPM, University of Sri Jayawadena­pura, NIBM, SLIDA and University of Moratuwa, CPM said in a media release.

The theme of this internatio­nal forum is "Transforma­tional Leadership: Turning Ideas into Action".

The conference will be inaugurate­d by the Chief Guest Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Special Assignment. The keynote speaker will be Prof. Errol D'Souza, Director- In- Charge of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India ( IIMA). President of AMDISA and Dean of the National University of Maldives Shathif Ali; Vice President of AMDISA and Chairman of Board of Governors, University of Management and Technology, Pakistan Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad and Director of IIM Bangalore, India Prof. G. Raghuram will address the inaugural session together with the President of CPM, Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala who is also the Immediate Past President of AMDISA.

The conference aims to bring together management experts, scholars, practicing managers, business leaders, policy administra­tors and academicia­ns from leading business schools from South Asia on a platform to discuss various connected issues and share their research findings, the CPM said. Four core themes will be lined up in the technical sessions to be held on September 27. The morning sessions will discuss "The Transforma­tional Role of Management" and "Management Developmen­t: Challenges and Success Stories" while the evening sessions will deal with "Management Developmen­t in a Digital Environmen­t" and "Turning Ideas into Action: Strategy and Execution".
