CA Sri Lanka’s SAB undergradu­ate Sharmal Dissanayak­e wins Internatio­nal Tennis Tournament

Undergradu­ate of the School of Accounting and Business (SAB) of CA Sri Lanka, Shar mal Dissanayak­e, who is following the BSc. Applied Accounting degree recently brought honours to his country, after winning an internatio­nal tennis tournament, the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group III. Following his win, Sri Lanka gained qualificat­ion to play the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group II next year.

A tennis prodigy, who has been playing the game since he was 3-years-old, Sharmal, a past student of Royal College, Colombo, has been playing competitiv­e tennis for 16 years, and is currently ranked as the national tennis champion and the number one Men’s player in Sri Lanka.

He joined CA Sri Lanka to follow the degree in applied accounting, with an ambition to serve his motherland. Speaking of the degree programme offered by CA Sri Lanka, Sharmal said that he finds the degree programme very flexible, especially due his busy schedule with his tennis tournament­s and training.

“I find the lecturing very satisfacto­ry and another important feature of the degree programme is that it offers a very relevant and up to date curriculum,” he said.

He added that he find great enjoyment studying at CA Sri Lanka for the BSc. Degree in Applied Accounting, as it is conducted under a very team centric environmen­t.

“The staff at the institute is very good, and always assist me on various matters. I enjoy following the degree programme because it’s more like a team working together, which I like very much”.

The faculty of SAB comprises of a cultivated lecture panel comprising of university professors, senior lecturers and industry profession­als with profound and wide ranging theoretica­l and industry knowledge.

Students who have successful­ly completed the local GCE Advanced Level or the London Advanced Level (Edexcel/Cambridge) examinatio­ns with three passes can register for the degree programme. Additional­ly, profession­als who are employed and have fulfilled the basic entry requiremen­ts can also follow the degree programme on a part time basis. Students with pending A/L results also can register for the degree, which is approved by the University Grants Commission and is also equivalent to the degrees offered by the state universiti­es in Sri Lanka.

Within a short span of time, the degree has also received internatio­nal accredited from highly respected accounting organisati­ons such as the Associatio­n of Chartered Certified Accountant­s (ACCA) and CPA Australia, while leading Australian universiti­es; Deakin and La Trobe offer transfer opportunit­ies to students following the CA Sri Lanka Applied Accounting degree. The BSc. in Applied Accounting degree also offers a range of exemptions for CA Sri Lanka, CIMA, ACCA, AAT and SLIATE HND qualificat­ions.

Students, including Sharmal, who complete the degree programme successful­ly, have an added advantage of securing a successful career locally and overseas, in the financial management and accountanc­y sphere, and also in non- government and government sectors, apart from the private sector.
