Dellon spins S. Thomas’ in sight of third outright win

- By M. Shamil Amit

Left arm spinner Dellon Peiris put the Mt. Lavinia lads close to their third outright victory of the season in their ongoing Under 19 inter- school cricket tournament.

Maliyadeva were in deep trouble as Peiris returned with a six wicket haul on day two at Mt Lavinia.

The Thomians dominated proceedings on day one and kept up the momen- tum. They had the Devans in a spot of bother in the second innings even though they escaped an innings defeat.

S. Thomas batting first scored 225 for 9 declared with Peiris in the limelight – top scoring with 40. Then Dellon bagged three wickets in the Maliyadeva first innings and the visitors were all out for 81 runs. Made to follow-on, once again the visitors were precariously placed at 182 for 9 -- falling once again to the wiles of Peiris who captured six wickets for 43 runs.

Trinity too were sitting pretty against St Benedict’s at Kotahena. Trinity on day one helped by an unbeaten 112 by Trevon Percival made a formidable 261 while the home side ended day one on 115 for 5.

The second day’s play saw St Benedict’s being unable to make much progress as they were bowled out for 160 runs. Bens made to follow on with a deficit of 101 runs was in a bad position of 115 for 7.

Royal Colombo, St Servatius Matara and Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda have already taken a first innings lead against Richmond, Wesley and Moratu MV when play stopped for lunch at Reid Avenue, Campbell Park and Balapitiya.
