Sepaktakraw Nationals on Nov. 18 and 19

The Amateur Sepaktakraw Association of Sri Lanka once again ventures out to stage the long awaited Sepaktakraw Nationals 2017 at the Indoor Stadium of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo – 10, on November 18 and 19, which was in the balance according to a senior association official as the Association had to face severe financial impediments by staging the 2nd South Asian Sepaktakraw Championship in Colombo in January this year with the participation of five SARCC Countries and is still settling financial obligations of the service – providers for that Championship .

But according the President of the Amateur Sepaktakraw Association Nizam Hajireen who has carried for over 30 years the Association’s functions and development programmes diligently and effectively to-date refused to be cowed down and urged all office-bearers, members to rally around him and stage the nationals which is the only platform for all budding youth and school-children of the country.

It is also learnt that the President and the Coaching Staff of the Association had launched a vigorous Orientation and Training Programme since March this year targeting Armed Forces, Police , Clubs and Schools covering the Districts of Colombo. Trincomalee, Kegalle, Jaffna, the STF and Police College Kalutara, repeatedly making over 20 visits to the aforesaid institutions.

Consequently the Organising Committee in order to provide more participation of individual players have allowed each club, association, schools, etc; to field four teams each. Accordingly there will be more men and women players participating in this year’s nationals than the previous years.

All Officials, members have rallied around the president to raise the required finances of Rs. 400,000/= and also in finding willing and suitable sponsors to meet the budget estimate of the nationals before the 10th of November 2017.

An earnest Appeal is made by the Association to all Sport – Loving individuals and Institutions to come forward and assist the Sepaktakraw Association to conduct the Nationals and cater to the under-privileged youth of our society to meaningfully participate in sports.
