Colombo bourse has 750,000 investors; plans public survey

-

Anational survey is to be conducted shortly by the Colombo Stock Exchange ( CSE), which has 750,000 investors, to gauge public knowledge and awareness on investing in Sri Lanka's share market.

The CSE, in a media release on Wednesday, said the national survey is to be conducted amongst the adult population with disposable income in Sri Lanka aged 18 years and above. "The purpose of this survey is to evaluate the understanding of the public on share investments and sentiments towards share investments and the CSE in particular as an institution. The survey will also identify factors behind the lower level of participation in Sri Lanka. The survey will cover all the districts in Sri Lanka," it said.

For this purpose, the CSE has called for "Request for Proposals ( RFP) for Public Survey Research on Share Investments in Sri Lanka" from survey research agencies.

The CSE is the only operator of a stock market and was incorporated as a com- pany limited by guarantee over 30 years ago.

Its core stakeholder base constitutes of 34 members and trading members, 296 issuers, 750,000 investors, over 150 employees, and other stakeholders.

"Our current investor base has a 25 per cent - 75 per cent mix of foreign to domestic investment in the equities market," it said.
