Chevening Scholarships are awarded to outstanding emerging leaders to pursue a one year masters at leading universities in the UK. A Chevening Scholarship offers financial support (including university tuition fees, living costs and travel costs to and from the UK) along with the opportunity to become part of the highly regarded and influential Chevening global network.

In September 2017, nine Sri Lankans travelled to the UK on Chevening Scholarships to read for their Masters at leading Universities – including University of London, University Colle ge London, University of Sussex, University of Edinburgh and University of St. Andrews. They will be studying a wide variety of topics – including law, neuroscience, statistics, media, gender and literature.

One of my childhood dreams was to study at Cambridge or Oxford - places where great leaders and scholars are made. After more than 10 years of relentless effort, I was finally in a position to obtain such a placement; I had an outstanding academic record and was at the top of my field. However, despite receiving an offer to read for a Masters in Finance from the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge – I was unable to attend due to the high costs involved. I was at the verge of giving up on one of the biggest dreams in my life, when I received word from Chevening that I had been selected for a full scholarship to study in UK. Chevening funded my full program cost including travelling and monthly expenses, I was able to be a full time student and enjoy all that the UK had to offer. Further, it gave me access to the largest scholar family in the world; with more than 40,000 scholars around the world in top positions in their countries influencing to make the world a better place. I am proud to be a part of the Chevening family and be a change agent for my country’s next chapter of success.
