Suresh ap­pointed Vice Pres­i­dent of ATF

Vet­eran Ten­nis ad­min­is­tra­tor, Suresh Subra­ma­niam who was Sec­re­tary Gen­eral of the Asian Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion(ATF) since 2005 was ap­pointed Vice Pres­i­dent of the ATF in Jakarta, In­done­sia last week. He is the first Sri Lankan to hold this pres­ti­gious po­si­tion. He served the ATF board from 2002. He was the un­con­tested past pres­i­dent of the Sri Lanka Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion from 2002 to 2007.

As Sec­re­tary Gen­eral of the ATF, Suresh was re­spon­si­ble for start­ing the Asian ju­nior cir­cuit which has now spread to 25 na­tions with more than 60 tour­na­ments per year.

The ATF is a non- profit or­gan­i­sa­tion a f f i l i at e d to the In­ter­na­tional Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion. It is a cen­tral body of na­tional ten­nis as­so­ci­a­tions of Asian coun­tries. The ATF's main ob­jec­tives are to raise the stan­dard of Asian ten­nis and to pop­u­lar­ize ten­nis among the peo­ple of Asia.

There are cur­rently 44 mem­ber as­so­ci­a­tions who rep­re­sent their re­spec­tive na­tions. The ATF wo rks cl o s e l y with t he In­ter­na­tional Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion ( ITF) and sup­ports its mem­ber as­so­ci­a­tions through the im­ple­men­ta­tion of a wide range of pro­grammes.
