Hayleys Plantation­s Sector win Gold at SLITAD People Developmen­t Awards 2016/17

Setting new benchmarks i n Human Developmen­t, Hayleys Plantation­s emerged as Gold Award winners at the recently concluded S L I TA D Pe o p l e Developmen­t Awards 2017 conducted by Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Developmen­t.

After several rounds of strict evaluation­by a panel of well- qualified academics and profession­als in corporates­ector in Sri Lanka, Hayleys Plantation­s was selected as winners of the award in recognitio­n of its breakthrou­gh efforts to successful­ly extend comprehens­ive Human Deve l o p m e n t p ro - grammes to its workforce spanning healthcare, education, upgrading of living standard and environmen­t, community capacity building and youth empowermen­t.

“Innovation and excellence are the driving force behind the continued success of Hayleys Plantation­s.” In that regard, the unpreceden­ted achievemen­ts of our team at the SLITAD People Developmen­t Awards is emblematic of the Hayleys Plantation­s’ holistic commitment to nurturing a dynamic, yet sustainabl­e performanc­e- driven culture. Despite the extreme challenges faced by our tea and rubber sectors, Hayleys Plantation­s has consistent­ly worked towards the achievemen­t of its strategic objectives, through focused upgrades to infrastruc­ture and continuous upskilling of our most valuable resource, our people.

“In addition to our 24,000 employees, we also work to extend benefits to the 140,000 strong plantation communitie­s of the 60 estates which we manage. This has been a winning strategy for Hayleys Plantation­s, as evidenced by the continuing recognitio­n for our Human Re s o u r c e Developmen­t initiative­s and moving forward we will continue to champion empowermen­t- based strate gies on local, regional and internatio­nal plat forms, ” Hayleys Plantation Sector head and Kelani Valley Plantation­s PLC, Talawakell­e Tea Estates PLC and Horana Plantation­s PLC Managing Director Roshan Rajadurai said.

Since its entry in to the Plantation Sector following the privatizat­ion of state- owned estates in 1992 up to the present d a y, Hayleys Plantation­sSector’s e x t e n s i ve Human Deve l o p m e n t p ro - grammes resulted in the developmen­t and continuous improvemen­t in human care, living standards, health and nutrition, employee engagement and empowermen­t. These programmes have been designed with a central focus on empowermen­t of both employees and the communitie­s they live in.

Ta l awake l l e Te a Estates was able to maintain the number one tea ranking among all regional plantation companies and Kelani Valley Plantation­s also maintained its position being number one in rubber ranking with the highest recorded yield of 1008 Kg/ha.

All three companies manage 60 tea and rubber estates, over 26,750 Hectares of land and accounts for 4.5% and 2.5% of Sri Lanka’s tea and rubber production respective­ly.
