Mahinda past cricket wins Olcott Trophy

Mahinda College Past Cricketers team led by Duminda Wickremasi­nghe defeated Dharmaraja College past cricketers led by Palitha Jayasunder­a by 46 runs to emerge winners of the 18th Sir Henry Steel Olcott Memorial Cricket Tournament held at the Training College Grounds Balapitiya.

In the tournament for present Cricketers of Mahinda College defeated Nalanda College by 34 runs.

Eight Past Cricketers teams from Mahinda College Galle, Ananda College Colombo, Dharmaraja College Kandy, Maliyadeva College Kurunegala, Rahula College Matara, Dharmapala College Pannipitiy­a, Nalanda College Colombo and hosts Dhar masoka College Ambalangod­a participat­ed.

The teams were led by Duminda Wickremasi­nghe, Thilina Kandamby, Palitha Jayasunder­a, Ranjith Madurasing­he, Pramodya Wickremasi­nghe, Gamini Perera, Mahendra Amarasingh­e and Saman Mohan respective­ly.

Mahinda College led group A which consisted of Dharmapala College, Ananda College and Maliyadeva College to reach the final while Dharmaraja led group B which consisted of Nalanda College, Rahula College and Dharmasoka College to qualify for the final.

Nalin Wijesinghe of Mahinda College was adjudged the Man of the tournament while Tharanga Mahabarage also of Mahinda was named the best bowler and Waruna Herath of Dharmaraja College was adjudged the best batsman of the tournament.

Sachitha Gunathilak­a of Nalanda College was named the best batsman while Navod Paranavith­ana of Mahinda College Galle was named best bowler of the tournament for present cricketers.

The 18th Sir Henry Steel Olcott Cricket Tournament was held from the 15th to the 17th of December
