NANO SHIELD, a new technology to substitute window films

- By Raj Moorthy

Designing a house or a tall building with glass windows can be challenging as to how to reduce the heat that penetrates through the glass windows. As a traditional method window films are the only solution interior designers and architects use to combat the heat penetration.

However a Japanese company’s product NANO SHIED comes to Sri Lanka as a new technology to substitute the window films. It’s a thermal insulation liquid coating solution for glass windows manufactured by Sketch Co. Ltd in Japan. Inmark Eco Solutions, a member of Himaco Holdings, is the sole distributor and exclusive rights holder in Sri Lanka. The official launch of the product was held at the Waters Edge in Colombo last week.

A glass window that is coated with NANO SHIELD blocks 99 per cent of ultra violet rays and 85 per cent of infrared rays allowing 75 per cent of visibility. Also it helps save 20 to 30 per cent of energy from the air conditioning that’s used inside the building. This intelligent energy efficient solution allows a glass window to receive maximum natural light while reducing the heat that is penetrated through the glass.

Inmark Eco Solutions Managing Director, Shamara Ariyasena at the launch of the product told the Business Times, “NANO SHIELD is one of the eco-friendly products we are bringing down to Sri Lanka. There are many other products similar to NANO SHIELD that are on the pipeline to be introduced to the Sri Lankan market,” she added.

NANO SHIELD can be applied on uneven glass surfaces and once applied, this eco-friendly solution lasts for 15 years, the company guarantees. Also there is no environmental pollution that arises after application of the solution. This product can be the life-changer for those who are striving to create a much comfortable work and living environment, the company says.

Sketch Co. Ltd, the manufacturers of the solution has a presence in more than 30 countries around the world and has more than 70 per cent market share in Japan.

Himaco Holdings, the parent company of Inmark Eco Solutions has a very strong relationship with many corporates in Japan. The company has been involved in importing offset printing machinery as well as machine parts directly from Japan. They have also branched out into the construction sector in Sri Lanka.
