Fly High with Swinburne
The aeronautical industry has taken flight as is often an area that boys dream of. The prospect of soaring above the clouds is one that fascinates many and is the catalyst to the ambition to be a pilot. Furthermore, the industry is now a major sector of the economy and has numerous job opportunities throughout the world.
With globalization increasing, air traffic increases each day and airports have become activity hubs. Airports, airlines and aeronautical manufacturers are constantly on the lookout for young people to join the ranks. However, like in any profession, competition is increasing, and a degree in aviation is often the point of differentiation.
The Unique Combination of Flying Qualifications and a Bachelor Degree
The degree in aviation aims to provide students with skills and knowledge beyond the fundamental flying skills required to be a commercial pilot. The degree equips students to take control of their dreams and be a success. The unique combination of flying qualifications and a bachelor degree ensures that students have the technical knowledge together with the maturity and discipline of a graduate. This is an asset to the employer.
Swinburne Partners with Quantas
The Swinburne University of Technology has partnered with Qantas Airways, the flag carrier of Australia and the largest airline by fleet size, international flights and international destinations. The pilot pathway program ensures that aviation students are eligible to enter the airline’s regional brand, QantasLink, as a Turboprop First Officer.
Under the Qantas Future Pilot Program, Bachelor of Aviation students from Swinburne will be mentored by experienced pilots during their degree. Furthermore, selected students will be invited to complete a fasttracked 12 week airline transition course.
On successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to enter the Qantas Group as a Turboprop First Officer with QantasLink.
“The Qantas Future Pilot Program is the most significant change in 70 years to the process by which Australian airlines select flight crew with a low number of flying hours” stated Swinburne’s Chair of Aviation, Stephen Fankhauser.
“Swinburne Aviation graduates have been sought after by the Qantas group for more than 20 years,” MrFankhauseradded.
“Today’s announcement is not only an acknowledgement of the Swinburne aviation program but a recognition of the significant role that pilot training and education in the tertiary sector will play in effectively meeting the industry’s demand for future flight crew.”
