School for Differently-abled Children, Nuwara Eliya, celebrates 30th anniversary

The School for Differentlyabled Children, established in 1988 at Nuwara Eliya, celebrated its 30th anniversary on Jan.25, with the participation of Dr. Christopher Strubs’ nextof-kin and parents of the students.

Dr. Strubs and Lady Strubs started this school on a voluntary basis, in a permanent building in Nuwara Eliya, with only 6 children and 3 teachers, sponsored by the Mencaff Institute, and no support from the government.

They now have 5 branches including in Batticaloa, 'housing' 6,000 children. However, at present, the Mencaff Institute has withdrawn its sponsorship of the school.

This remarkable voluntary service afforded to these children, without prejudice and differences, has come in for high praise from the parents of these children.
