Air Force bag two titles

Lanka Air Force bagged two championsh­ip titles at the Sunquick National Beach Volleyball Championsh­ips concluded at the Sugathadas­a New Beach Volleyball Courts.

The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and was sponsored by Sunquick PLC and C. W. Mackie Pvt. Ltd.

The championsh­ips won by Sri Lanka Air Force were Under 21 Men and Women.

The Open Wo m e n’ s Championsh­ip was won by Sri Lanka Navy and the Open Men’s Championsh­ip was won by Sri Lanka Army.

In the Under 21 Men’s Finals Sri Lanka Air Force ( Ashen Rashmika and Kavindu Malinda) beat Davisamara Sports Club (Rehan Madusanka and Mihiranga Udayakumar­a) by 3 sets to 1. Scores: 21-12, 19-21, 15-10 and 17-15.

In the Women’s Under 21 Final Air Force ( Hasini Malsa Priyamali and A. S. Asanga) overcame Galigamuwa Sports Club ( G. Senaratne and S. Lakmal) by 2 to 1. Scores: 17-21, 21-17 and 15-9.

In the Women’s Open Sri Lanka Navy ( Sag arika Gunasinghe and Kasuni Tharaka) beat Sri Lanka Army ( Chathurika Madushani and Tamara Kumari) by 2 sets to nil. Scores: 21-14 and 21-6.

In the Men’s Open Sri Lanka Army (Indika Tyrone and Jayan Sanuja) beat Sri Lanka Air Force (Pubudu Ekanayake and Sujeeva Chinthaka) by 3 sets to 1. Scores: 21-15, 16-21,13-15 and 11-15.

There were island wide first round matches where 112 teams participat­ed.

The specialty of the event was that a beach volleyball court was constructe­d specially for the tournament and three finals were worked off on it. The Under-21 women’s final was completed earlier.
