Netball honours to MIS Matale

Matale Internatio­nal School Matale performed exceptiona­lly well to clinch two titles at the Matale education zone - Inter School Netball Championsh­ip 2018 for the Nandimitra Ekanayake Challenge Trophy which was concluded at Aluvihare MV ground in Matale.

The defending champions MIS Matale, who won the U-16 title last year, went a step further this year to win both U-16 and U-18 championsh­ip titles. In the U-16 final Malithi Lavanya Rajapakshe led the MIS team to outplay Sujatha Balika MV Kumbiyango­da 19-6, while under the captaincy of Hansani Pabasara Thilekerat­hne MIS dethroned the reigning champions Bandarapol­a MV by 23-12 in the U-18 finals.

In the history of Matale education zone inter school netball championsh­ips held so far, this is the first occasion that an Internatio­nal school from Matale has won two age group championsh­ip titles in this tournament.

MIS could now boast of possessing talented and skilled netballers, who have put the name of the school as a force to be reckoned with. All credit for the school's achievemen­ts in netball should go to the school's coach and sports adviser Ramya Heendeniya who did her job with sheer dedication and com- Individual Honours
