Care for Paws by The Overseas School of Colombo
On Saturday May 12th, The Overseas School of Colombo’s Care for Paws service group joined forces with Adopt a Dog Sri Lanka and Dr Chamith Nanayakkara with the Association of Veterinarians for Humane Management of Animal Population and held a Free Sterilization and Vaccination Camp for the local community. The event was held very close to the OSC campus to authentically help reduce the street animal population in the local area.
Group members raised funds most of the academic year in order to provide the services. They could sterilize cats and dogs as well as provide vaccinations for any and all pets brought to the camp. Dr. Chamith and his crew were able to sterilize twenty-four animals and give rabies vaccinations to over forty-five. Local residents brought their own pets and helped Dr. Chamith’s crew gather some of the local street dogs in the area.
The event was a huge success. Group leaders Disara Sandulika Samayawardhena and Rashni Bopitiya were extremely pleased with the results of all their hard work. Their goal is to continue to raise funds to ensure that this Care for Paws sponsored event becomes an annual event in the community. They also wanted to express their appreciation to Shoba Wijekoon from Adopt a Dog as well as Dr. Chamith for all their help in organizing the event.
