Sri Lankan students take the world by storm at the ICYS 2018
At the 25th International Conference of Young Scientists (ICYS) held in Belgrade from the 19 to 25th of April, three Sri Lankan students have showcased the talents of Sri Lanka's youth at an international platform, rising well above their peers.
In the category of Poster Presentation, Rakindu Wickramarathne of Nalanda College, Samadhi Munaweera of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya and Sawandi Senanayake of Girls' High School, Kandy have each won gold and in the category of Research Presentation, Wickramarathne, Munaweera and Senanayake have won silver, bronze and bronze respectively.
Organized by the Regional Center for Talented Youth Beograd II, the ICYS plays a role in the education of talented secondary school students, by opening new possibilities for them to further extend their knowledge in the sciences. Open for stu- dents between the ages of 14-18 years, in physics, mathematics, computer science and ecology, participants are required to research report on a subject of their choice from the above mentioned sciences he Regional Center for Talented Youth Beograd II guides talented individuals in the fields of natural, technical, social and humanistic sciences, striving to make a valuable contribution to the development and promotion of science through discovering talented children a d supporting their engagement in scientific research.
