Epic milestone from local company

- By Jayampathy Jayasinghe

“We are considered as an international player offering world class solutions to financial services including digitalising process of many banks in Sri Lanka. We have taken our technology to the region and started operations in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia to make Epic a global brand,” said Dr. Nayana Dehigama, Executive Chairman / Managing Director of Epic Technology Group celebrating the 20th anniversary of his company at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel - Colombo, this week.

He said the aim of Epic Technology Group was to create a technological company with local expertise that forays into the world with local expertise and technology. When Epic commenced operations 20, years ago the company was able to compete with other international brands and players in the market place. Epic Technology at the very outset started as a value adding re- seller to a US retail giant and thereafter was able to get a foothold in the market.

“Very soon we were able to establish our presence in the financial service industry as a leading solution provider and decided to expand further to diversify our products to other areas as well such as information system security, mobile applications, document management and digitalisation, etc.”

He said although the company was specialising in financial service solutions they had ventured into other areas such as well.

Epic Technology Group commenced business as a backyard start-up in 1988 with four members on its board of directors. It was the vision created by Dr. Dehigama.

His vision was to be a leader in the technology world and in the financial sector industry which he accomplished although it was a long and arduous task in a competitive world. Today Epic Technological Group is known as a solution provider in the region and has made vast strides in adopting modern day technology. The company has many accolades to its credit having won most awards at the national level during the past six years.

Group Director/CEO of Epic Technology Viraj Mudalige said the lack of expertise 20 years ago in the IT financial sector led to the draining of foreign currency out of the country.” Our intention was to bring local expertise and have our own solutions. Our financial product had won the best Asia Pacific award. We have created more than six international Sri Lankan products including a security blanket to prevent credit cards thefts.” He said most Sri Lanka banks and international banks use their products.
