WYCHERLEY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

INTRODUCES GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES AND CAMBRIDGE ICT STARTERS

-

I am indeed proud to mention that with the commencement of the new Academic Year we have 5 Cambridge subjects included in our syllabuses, viz English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Global Perspectives. These subjects will be covered by high quality assessments through Cambridge International Examinations” says

Mr. Kingsley Jayasinghe Director / Principal of Wycherley International School.

Wycherley International School follows a Complete Cambridge Curriculum from UKG (Year 1) right up to the A/ Levels. Cambridge Education is at the forefront of research into educational best practices. The educational assessment is based on 150 years of research and accumulated expertise. ICT Starters is now part of the educational experience worldwide. It is regarded as a new literacy alongside Reading, Writing and Numeracy. Cambridge Primary/ Secondary Check point Examinations are designed to help students learn by providing comprehensive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses in the key curriculum areas – English, Mathematics and Science. The tests are offered to our students at the end of Grade 5 and Grade 8. They are marked by Cambridge and provide schools with an international benchmark for student performance. Each student receives a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report, giving schools invaluable information and parents extra thrust in the feedback they receive on their children.

Introduction of Cambridge ICT starters will be from Grade 3 onwards with the commencement of the New Academic Year. It is being worked out along with the ICT curriculum in school and contains three levels. ICT starters is aimed at students between the ages of 5 – 15 years. As students complete each module, they will receive a Cambridge ICT Starters Certificate at the end of each stage. The first batch of our Grade 7 students completed a pilot project in April / May 2018 and all other Grades will follow with the upcoming new Academic Year which will commence on the 27th of August 2018.

Our teachers are trained and the curriculum is based on text books recommended directly from Cambridge. With the addition of ICT to the curriculum, students are exposed to ICT at an early age. It gives them an advantage over others when they finally graduate from Wycherley.

Global Perspectives will be introduced into the curriculum from UKG upwards. Global Perspectives develops the skills of research, analysis, evaluation, reflection, collaboration and communication. It strengthens the links across English language, Mathematics, Science and ICT Starters. Research says that the earlier students start to develop and practice their skills, the greater the impact on their learning.

We live in a world consumed by technology that provides incredible opportunities for young students. Gearing them to be on par with International Education can help to improve achievement levels, inspire creative thinking and encourage the development of skills that will prove invaluable in the real world.

The University of Cambridge International Examinations ranks as the world’s largest provider of International Education Programmes and qualifications for 05 – 19 year olds. It also gives students a strong base on which to specialise and acts as an International Passport to progress and success in the future.

Parents always want to give their children the best possible Education as a Passport to the future. The school you choose for your children and the system of education they will follow, determines their success in life. The Cambridge system of education at Wycherley offers just this and more.

With its triple strength motto, ‘ Tradition – Education – Excellence’, Wycherley takes pride in being the First International School in Sri Lanka to offer the much sought after Cambridge system of education. While nurturing traditional social values in a multicultural and multi- religious environment, Wycherley International School strongly focuses on academic excellence as a stepping stone to ‘internationalising’ its students and making them successful citizens of the world.
