Inauguration Ceremony of the 47th annual sessions

Today, 12th June 2018, was indeed a remarkable day for the Institute of Chemistry members. The inauguration ceremony of the 47th annual sessions was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute auditorium, Colombo 7.

The event commenced at 9 a.m with the arrival of the dignitaries in a traditional procession ceremony. The President of the Institute, Dr. PoshithaPremaratne welcomed everyone to the ceremony officially. His presidential address elaborated the success of the past year and highlighted the initiative steps taken to broaden the horizons of the Institute graduateship program.

The Chief Guest of the day, Mr. KulathungaRajapaksa, the Group Managing Director of DSI Samson Group ( Pvt) Ltd, has served as a council member of several universities and is a past president of National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka and also of the Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products. And currently he is an Executive Committee member.

Guest of honour of the event, Mr. MaduaraVithanage, attorney at law and also the mayor of Sri JayawardhanapuraKotte discussed about the view of science, technology and innovation among the community and the government's contribution for Research, development and innovation.

Two types of awards were awarded at the ceremony, institute awards and College of Chemical Sciences awards. The institute awards consist of Dr. C L De Silva Gold medal which was awarded to Dr. P A N Punyasiri, Professor M U S Sultanbawa Award for Research in Chemistry 2017 which was awarded to Ms. K Anoosheyaand All Island Interschool Chemistry Quiz and Chemistry Olympiad prizes. The College of Chemical Sciences awards were for the best performers in levels 1-4 of the Graduateship Program.

Prof. SudanthaLiyanage, President elect of the institute of chemistry Ceylon delivered the vote of thanks. He thanked everyone for nominating him as the president and gave his word to take the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon high up the success ladder together as a family.
