Schoolboy attacked and killed by fellow students

A 16- ye a r- o l d schoolboy from a leading school in Chilaw succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack by his school mates, police said.

The grade 11 student identified as Mohomad Rifsy Faizoor, who was a prefect of Sawarana Muslim School, Chilaw was assaulted on Sunday, June 10 when he was returning to his aunt and uncle's home after attending religious activities at 9.30 pm at the mosque.

He was waylaid by a group of students who had switched off the street lights to carry out the ambush.

The victim said he had been attacked with wooden poles and fists.

According to his brother, Faizoor came to his house vomiting and told him of the attack he had been subjected to.

He added that as his brother's condition had worsened, they admitted him to the Chilaw District Hospital the day after the attack, but as his conditione­d turned critical, he was transferre­d to the Intensive Care Unit ( ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital. When his condition appeared to be improving, he was discharged from the National Hospital. But his condition took a turn for the worse and he was re-admitted to the ICU of the National Hospital, where he died.

Police arrested four students of the same school the victim was attending. Three students were enlarged on bail, while one student has been remanded.

The alleged attacker was produced before Chilaw Magistrate Manjulla Ratnayake and remanded till 26 June.
