Moratuwa Arts Forum turns to 25th year

The Moratuwa Arts Forum (MAF) will be stepping in to their 25th Anniversar­y year with the election of new Office Bearers for the year 2018 / 2019 on Sunday, 24th June 2018.

Formation of Moratuwa Arts Forum was initiated jointly by singer Tilak Perera and late musician Kumar Peiris. It was the late Asoka Peiris, who took the mantle of Charter President and laid a solid foundation in 1994. The 24th Annual General Meeting will come alive on Sunday at Dilaj Lounge of the Sebestiani­tes Sports Club in Moratuwa. Traditiona­lly the AGM will begin with the ceremonial segment with the Chief Guest by the business sessions and the election of office bearers and the committee of management.

The ceremonial segment will follow the entertainm­ent lined up to add value to the ceremonial segment along with presentati­on of awards. There would be several dignitarie­s gracing the occasion who had been there with MAF supporting their cause of Identifyin­g and encouragin­g the talented Youth of Moratuwa.

MAF has launched many projects to identify Moratuwa talents and to promote music. To name a few the regular projects they launched were – ‘ Punsanda Paaya’, a variety entertainm­ent, ‘ Down Memory Lane’- a sing along parties with Golden Oldies introduced in 1997 and ‘Gayamu Eda Gee’, a sing along of Sinhala favourites that are now household words and well patronised.

The latest ‘ Down Memory Lane’ Concert will be held for the 18th time on 8th July 2018 with tickets being moderately priced at Rs. 800/- in order to allow many regular patrons to participat­e. This time it will be held at air conditione­d Randiya Hotels Koralawell­a, Moratuwa.

Apart from these entertainm­ent projects, MAF has launched new projects for education, artistic developmen­t, youth upliftment and not forgetting the hallowed duty by the community fulfilling obligation­s of social responsibi­lity as well. Health camps, career building sessions for Advanced Level students, entertaini­ng the residents of elder’s homes and the patients at the Mental Hospital, programmes for Vesak, Poson and Christmas are few projects to mention.
