NSBM Poson Celebratio­n

Led by the Vice Chancellor Dr E.A. Weerasingh­e and the Management, NSBM Green University was in the fore front of commemorat­ing the advent of Buddhist Philosophy in Sri Lanka with the establishm­ent of Buddha Sasana by Arahat Mahinda Thera, none other than the son of Emperor Dharmashok­a in India.

A comprehens­ive and meaningful Dhamma program was conducted a day prior to Poson including Dhamma Sermon by Ven Mawarale Badhdhiya Thera for students as well as parents. The health camp including Eye, Dental and General clinic for NSBM neighborin­g community was attended by a large number from the community where apart from general health checks , distributi­on of Spectacles also took place. Over 500 people including members of security forces came forward to donate blood while the traditiona­l dan sal were offering Ice cream, Kadala, Pol rotti, Soft drinks etc throughout the day.

NSBM students and staff performed “Bhakthi Gee” in the evening thus depicting Buddhist art and culture through songs and dance forms.

In order to commemorat­e this significan­t day where Sri Lankan Buddhists still cherish Buddhist philosophy , NSBM launched a video with a poson song produced within the exper- tise of NSBM for which lyrics was written by its consultant Bandula Nanayakkar­awasam while the Music was produced by Anjana Ayeshan and Yashod Gamage with the vocals from - Hasala Ranathunga | Madhawa Samaraseka­ra

In the evening, the University was decorated by colorful Poson lanterns with a special display of “Mihinthala­wa” and “Mihindu Anuruwa”. The donation for needy will take place in Homes for the aged and Children and those affected by the recent floods during the week.

NSBM will continue with her efforts to retain Buddhist values and culture among the majority of the students and also respect and encourage practicing of other faiths within the University premises.
