Mahendran, Aloysius made hundreds of calls to top Central Bank officials

Call records of the Central Bank's former Governor, Arjuna Mahendran, and Perpetual Treasuries Ltd's former Director Arjun Aloysius -made publicly available this week -- have disclosed details of people with whom they maintained contact over two years.

The call records are a part of the Commission report which probed the Central Bank Bond issue.

The Presidenti­al Secretaria­t decided to make the records public this week. The informatio­n is available with the National Archives and could be obtained by the public.

A copy obtained by the Sunday Times reveals that Mr Aloysius had maintained a high number of contacts with an official who served in the Employees Provident Fund and the Public Debt Department of the Central Bank and another official of the Central Bank.

Call records between Mr. Aloysius and Indika Saman Kumara, who served as a senior manager of the Central Bank's Public Debt Department and later as an Assistant Superinten­dent of the EPF, reveal that more than 1,800 calls were made during the 2015-2017 period. Another 60 calls were to and from Thakshila Kumari, a partner of Mr. Saman Kumara.

There were also more than 400 calls between Mr. Saman Kumara’s brother Amal Eroshan who works at Carson Cumberbatc­h.

There were also more than 300 calls between Mr. Aloysius and Sangarapil­lai Pathumanap­an, who worked at the EPF and the Public Debt Department of the Central Bank. More than 750 calls were made to Sangarapil­ai Ayngaran, a relative of Mr. Pathumanap­an.

There were also nearly 200 calls between Mr. Aloysius and Naveen Anuradha who served as the Assistant Superinten­dent and Senior Asst Superinten­dent of the EPF and as Asst Director of the Financial Intelligen­ce Unit of the Central Bank.

The former Central Bank Governor’s call records reveal that he was in contact with Kasun Palisena, PTL's Chief Executive officer, who is in remand custody along with Mr. Aloysius.
