PM to Singapore to address World Cities Summit

Prime Minister (PM) Ranil Wickremesi­nghe will deliver the keynote address at the opening of the World Cities Summit (WCS), Singapore Internatio­nal Water Week and Clean Environmen­t Summit Singapore 2018, to be held tomorrow (9).

The Premier’s visit to Singapore to deliver the keynote address at the summit follows an invitation extended by Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong, during his visit to Sri Lanka in January.

After delivering the keynote address at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore, Premier Wickremesi­nghe is also due to attend a lunch hosted by Premier Hsien Loong the same day.

The WCS is a platform for government leaders and industry experts to address liveable and sustainabl­e city challenges, share integrated urban solutions and forge new partnershi­ps.

The theme for this years’ summit will be “Liveable & Sustainabl­e Cities: Embracing The Future Through Innovation and Collaborat­ion.” The 6th WCS in 2018 will explore how cities can be more liveable and resilient through better governance and planning, technology and social innovation­s, as well as collaborat­ions with various stakeholde­rs and other cities.

Along with the PM, Minister of Housing & Constructi­on Sajith Premadasa, Minister of City Planning & Water Supply Rauff Hakeem, Minister of Developmen­t Strategies & Internatio­nal Trade Malik Samarawick­rama and Deputy Minister of Petroleum Resources Developmen­t Anoma Gamage, are also due to attend the summit.

Meanwhile, Singapore Minister of Communicat­ion & Informatio­n, S. Iswaran has also organised a

Sri Lanka Trade Promotion Fair for July 10.
