- By M. Shamil Amit

The final of the Six Red Ball Snooker Championship played at the AAC billiards table yesterday, saw M.F.M. Fazil of The Cue Club come out victorious by five frames to four in a nail biting finish against Ashiq Hussain of Moors SC (MSC) with the game going to the wire of the nine frames encounter.

The specialty of Fazil’s win was that he had to concede the first frame as he arrived to play the final late

and then playing under pressure lost the second frame to give Hussain a 2-0 lead.

Fazil came back to grab the grab the third frame but Hussain continued to have his opponent under pressure as he chalked up back to back wins by taking the fourth and fifth frames with ease.

Hussain with the two frame wins was on top with a clear lead of 4-1 but Fazil playing with more cohesion and concentration settled down to win the remaining four frames to emerge champion by five frames to four and in the process bagged the late Ajward Hashim Memorial Trophy which was on offer.

Earlier in the day the play off for the third slot between Anuruddha Higgoda of OAC and M.D.R. Jayasundara of Brand Star saw Anuruddha coming out victorious by two frames to nil in the three frame encounter.
